I don’t know about you but I was bigger than that when I graduated from high school – and I’ve only gotten bigger! (But more on my fat ass later!)

If you’ve ever seen these guys hit the ball, you know it’s true they can knock the cover off the ball…but how do they do it?

To be sure, they’re all naturally gifted and have worked hard to reach the top of their chosen profession. Let’s be honest and acknowledge that truth, but there’s more to it than that.

If you play golf for long, you’ve no doubt run across average-looking people who CRUSH their drives.

Are they using better equipment?

Is it the latest model driver with the biggest head and the newest technology?

That might have something to do with it. But if you hit a drive with the same club John Daly uses, would you hit the ball as far as he does?

Not likely.

The golf ball can make some difference but you’re not going to suddenly smash your drives 30 yards longer just by switching golf balls. You know that.

So all you have to do is swing harder, right? Then you’ll be bombing the ball like the long-hitters, right? WRONG!!

The fact is that when you start over swinging in order to generate more club head speed, all kinds of things can go wrong. You lose your balance, your rhythm, your tempo.

Occasionally you might get lucky and crush a drive once in a while. But you’ll probably become more inconsistent.

When you over swing, you tend to accentuate the negative. What used to be a nice draw can quickly turn into a duck hook. And what used to be a gentle fade can turn into a wicked slice. And we all know it’s no fun hitting your second shot from the woods.
