  • What’s Your #1 Scoring Leak?
Home Why you need systems to lower your score Check your balls today.. (important)

Check your balls today.. (important)

Contrary to what you might think, this won’t require a visit to Dr. Beeper (doctor on Caddyshack).

Today, we are going to find the balls in our bag that are perfectly round and those that aren’t.

Most balls are good.

Despite huge manufacturing improvements over the years… balls still aren’t perfect.

We know how a ball with mud on it reacts when hit.

We know how a wheel that is out of balance acts when driving at speed.

Tests done by Dave Pelz also prove without a doubt that out of balance balls will cause you to miss a putt…

… a putt you would normally make.

So…

When you are playing, you need to know the balls you have are perfectly round.

Ball Detector 2000 Instructions

[ ———– REQUIRED MATERIALS ———–  ]

  • Sleeve of new golf balls.
  • 12-15 TBSP Epsom Salts
  • Container three times or more wider than golf ball
  • 2 1/2 cups luke-warm water
  • Sharpie

[ ———– /REQUIRED MATERIALS ———–  ]

Time to make your wife or girlfriend mad. Let’s mix all this stuff together and find out what kinda balls we are playing with.

[ ———– BALL DETECTOR 2000 ———–  ]

  1. Fill container with water.
  2. Gradually add Epsom salts and mix.
  3. Add the ball to the water. It should float.
  4. If it does not float, add more salts.
  5. Continue until the ball floats.
  6. Push ball to bottom of container and let is
    rise to the surface.
  7. When the ball is totally still, take your Sharpie
and place a dot where the ball is straight up. The
opposite side is the heavy side of the ball.
  8. Repeat step 6 and 7. If the ball gives you random
places, the ball is perfectly round. However, if it
keeps coming back to your dot, you know the ball
is heavy to that one side.

My Results

Out of a sleeve of Titleist Pro V1x’s, only one was perfectly balanced.

Here’s what my balls looked like after I tested and marked them.

All is not lost if the ball is out of round. You can still mark it so it is usable on the green.

You will need to mark the balance line.

All you need for this is a tool use to mark lines on the ball. When struck along this line your ball will roll true on the path you intended.

This is easy!

As you can see, I marked the balance line on the bad balls so I know how to align them when teeing off or putting.

If I’m not playing skins or in a tournament – I roll with the out of round balls.

[ ———– PLAYER TIP ———–  ]

Change balls every two to three holes. You’re a big brute
now with all your golf fitness and it’s easy to slap even
a perfect ball out of round.
