In my last message, I told you about Club Campestre – one of the golf clubs I recently played in Cali, Colombia.
Today, we’ll shift our focus to Club Farallones – another private golf club in Cali. This course is a MONSTER. It measures 7,413 yards from the blue tees and an amazing 7,007 yards from the whites!
If you’re a senior, you’ll catch a break because the yellow tees measure a mere 6,466 yards.
The signature hole at Club Farallones is #11. The ladies tees are only 571 yards from the green. Senior play the hole under 600 yards too – but just barely at 599 yards. Play from the white tees and you’ve got only 677 yards to reach the green. And from the blue tees, this hole measures and astounding 710-yards!!
Thankfully, it’s a par 6 and that’s why par at Club Farallones is 73 instead of 72. Here’s me on the 11th tee box:
For the record, I reached this green in regulation – 4 shots! I even had a reasonable birdie putt of about 20-feet. Unfortunately I was so excited about the possibility of scoring a birdie on the longest hole in South America that I blew my birdie putt six feet past the hole, missed the par putt, and tapped in for bogey 7. Oh well, next time!!
Here’s the view of the tee shot from the blue tees:
You can’t even see the green! And here’s the view of the green from 100 yards out. As you can see, the green is surrounded by water and this hole is narrower than most so this is quite a challenging par 6!
Despite its length, this was my favorite course. Perhaps to make up for the length, this course is more open than both Club El Rodeo and Club Campestre. And with a wider margin of error I was actually able to score better on this course.
The practice facilities at both Club Campestre and Club Farallones are top notch – at least when compared to Club El Rodeo. Both driving ranges are enormous with plenty of targets. And I noticed plenty of training devices at Club Farallones too – like the training aid to check your swing plane (sorry no photo!).
To sum it up, I loved Cali (hint: there’s more to Cali than golf!) and I’ll be “Goin’ Back to Cali” at some point in the future. If you have any questions about golf in Colombia, just hit reply and ask away.
