Over the past weekend, I was in San Antonio filming exercise videos and golf drills and tips for you with the rest of the Get Golf Fit gang (with Robert and Rich, more about this later and how I was dutch-ovened in my Jag going through an automated car wash)…
As we were filming, we had a bird’s eye view of the driving range. One thing became very clear…
Most of the golfers were just pounding balls mindlessly. Who knows what they were even thinking, but from the looks of it it wasn’t their golf swing. They had no strategy or gameplan.
It was also apparent that they hadn’t had a plan for YEARS or DECADES.
Do you really want to stay the same year after year after year?
Think about your own golf game for a moment. Where are you NOW compared to LAST YEAR at
this time?
Are you better, the same, or worse?
A small vocal minority (why do they always feel the need to brag) have improved while the silent
majority have been spinning their wheels.
My guess is you are about the same as you were last year. It’s not your fault…
… the golf industry has been lying to golfers for decades. Golf magazines, TV shows, gadgets all
have been pitching quick fixes.
Most golfers take a drill from here, a drill from there and haphazardly try improve their golf game. How’s
that been working for you?
You need a plan. A plan is even better if it’s backed by results and science. That’s a CAN’T LOSE type
of situation. Hedging your bet essentially.
You also need something else to fulfill all of your athletic potential. Mindfulness.
“You were born to win, but to be a winner you must plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to
win” – Zig Ziglar
Remember those mindless golfers just pounding ball after ball with no plan on the range?
Those golfers are just wasting time… sure, hitting balls is fun and it’s a big stress relief. However, without
a plan, you will NEVER reach your full potential.
Even with a plan, if you do not practice mindfulness, you won’t reach your full potential.
Mindless practice + mindless workouts = lackluster or no results.
So what is mindfulness?
A working definition is this: a state of open attention in which you observe thoughts, feelings, and ideas
without judgment, and with the idea of remaining focused on the present moment.
To put it simply… focusing on the task at hand. Keeping your mind on the job.. It’s being present,
and aware.
It’s paying attention to something deliberately, and with intention.
I’ll give you an exercise to practice. It’s only 2 minutes long but incredibly difficult.
Don’t skip this.
Set a timer for 2 minutes. Wherever you’re at, I want you to close your eyes, and pick one thing to
focus on.
You can focus on anything – a thought, feeling or smell. Just has to be something you can
pay deliberate attention to. This is why I encourage people to focus on a bodily feeling or sensation
over a thought, at least at first.
One idea is to hold a pen in your hand. Pay attention to how it feels, how it sits in your hand, the
texture, the weight, and how does it feel on each fingertip?
The goal for the entire 2 minutes is to focus on the feel of the pen without your mind wandering. Pay
attention, each time your mind begins to wander and re-focus. Don’t get mad, or upset with yourself,
or think you failed if you mind wanders, because this is a difficult task.
Just do your best.
Now once the timer goes off, I want you to think about the following:
- How many times did your mind wander?
- Was it hard to stay focused?
- Were you bored at all?
- Did the 2 minutes seem to last forever?
Did you notice anything you hadn’t before about how something felt to you?
If you did the exercise, you just practiced mindfulness.
Mindfulness is an exceptional skill when it comes to practicing golf and working out. Mindfulness
gives you a laser focus. Mindfulness keeps you present in your practice or rep.
Get better at mindfulness in everything you do. The results may just shock you.
Mix together a solid plan and mindfulness and you have a recipe that can’t lose. You can even achieve
results similar to Chris Connell.
“Finished the beginners workouts. Results -5 lbs, +15 yards with drives, +10 yards with irons.“
– Chris Connell
It’s really a simple formula. Get yours here:
=> Mindfulness + a plan (backed by science and results) = RESULTS
The only question now is, what do you want to accomplish from your golf game?
Do you want to out-drive your money game buddies?
Do you want to hit short irons to the green instead of a mid to long iron?
Do you want more endurance so you don’t get tired and fade on the back 9?
You probably answered yes to each question… and those may all seem to require a different
approach to reach them all.
WRONG.
In fact, all of my golf programs are designed to improve all of the above, using strategic and
scientifically backed progressive exercises.

PS- Here are just a few people just like you who have seen amazing results…
“I am in my mid forties. Last season, at the end of each round I was tired and sore. I made a
resolution to get fit. I came across this programme online and have been working on several
workouts for 3 months. I have seen a dramatic improvement in my stamina and my driving
distance has increased appreciably.”
Joe Williamson
“Chris, I have lost 25 lbs, my flexibility has increased and I have taken my handicap from a
7 to a 4. I can play all day without being in pain for a few days. Thanks for your help!”
Kirk Mortensen
“I have shaved about 3 strokes and gained about 5 yards all around on my game.”
